Domestic violence is often seen in relationships where one or more partners abuse alcohol. Domestic violence can include emotional, physical, verbal, economic, and sexual abuse.
Though correlation isn’t causation, studies (source link) often show frequent alcohol abuse in men who batter their wives. As well, alcohol is known to lessen inhibition and increase risky behavior. It is no surprise that alcohol abusers would engage in violence.
