Yep. It’s true. Alcohol is a diuretic, which is a fancy way of saying that it causes your body to take fluids out of your blood via your kidneys and other parts of your renal system at a much faster rate than say, water or other liquids that do not have a diuretic effect.
If you drink too much alcohol at once, it can cause dehydration. If you are of legal drinking age, one way to combat this is through drinking water while you drink your alcohol. If you are underage, avoid alcohol at all costs!
Better yet, no matter your age, next time you’re craving alcohol, go for water, tea, or non-caloric soda instead! Your health (and your body) will thank you!
