Self care can take many forms, but we’re primarily interested in the self care that looks like avoiding alcohol and other harmful drugs like marijuana, tobacco, and the abuse of opioids. It may not seem like self care to say no to an alcoholic beverage at a friend’s house, but in the long run, you are making great strides in your overall health. Every time you prioritize health over momentary pleasure, you’re flexing and building up that “muscle” that allows you to have greater willpower in the future. Self care is important.
