As February comes to a close, students and adults are gearing up for March! I remember this time of year being particularly tiring when I was a student in high school and college. The middle of the semester can sometimes cause increased stress, exhaustion, frustration, and temptation to chill out in less-than-healthy ways. If that describes you right now, make an extra effort to take care of yourself in healthy ways. Here are some tips for dealing with that mid-semester stress:
>> Take breaks. // If you are a work-a-holic and can’t seem to slow down long enough to smell the blooming flowers outside, MAKE TIME during your day to intentionally sit in stillness or go for a walk. Step away from your school work and extra curricular activities, and spend time having fun or resting.
>> Eat well. // If you’re stressed out, the tendency is to eat junk to make yourself feel better. Don’t load up on all that bad food and sugary soda! Eat a healthy diet with occasional indulgences. The nutrients and vitamins will help your brain and body to be at their best during the busiest part of the school year!
>> Spend time with friends. // Be social in meaningful ways. Don’t head out to parties where drinking or other drugs will be present. Spend quality time with the people you care about. Get to know them! Play games together! Talk!
>> Organize your time well. // Not everyone is gifted with time management, but spending some extra time getting organized with your schedule can save you a lot of headaches later.
>> Avoid alcohol and other drugs. // They won’t make you feel better in the long run and can do disastrous damage to your body. Don’t rely on drugs to feel at ease. Instead, spend quality time with the people you love, go for a walk, use exercise or meditation to help you de-stress.
